night president obama spoke at the democratic national convention to a thundering applause. he got all the points he wanted in there including good lines making fun of republicans idea of domestic political. >> obama: they want your vote, but they don't want you to know their plan. that's because all they had to offer is the same prescriptions they've had for the last 30 years. have a surplus try a tax cut. deficit too high? try another. feel a cold coming on? take two tax cuts, roll back some regulations, and call us in the morning. [applause] that ain't that the god's honest truth. that's all they've done since i've been alive. tax cuts and more tax cuts. i hope the president doesn't going along with them in the second term. he promised he would not. let's hold him to that promise. on foreign policy. >> obama: four years ago i promised to end the war in iraq. we did. [applause] i promised to refocus on the terrorists who attacked on 9/11, and we have. in 2014, our longest war will be over. al-qaeda is on the bath to defeat and osama bin laden is dead. >> cenk: hard to argue with that

opening up a five-point lead for president obama. the swing states are the most important. we'll get polling on that soon as well, but it looks like there was definitely a bounce in the polls for president obama after the convention. during our coverage on current eliot spitzer predicted a four-point bump. i predicted five. vice president gore, six to eight. it looks like the democratic convention went off better than the republican one if you look at the polls. now that the conventions are over, mitt romney as usual getting himself in more and more trouble. so they're answering the question. you got to under something. mitt romney's tax plan is a disaster for the budget. it would create giant deficits. how can you say you can fight deficits if your plan creates bigger deficits. he says, no, no, i'm going to get rid of the loopholes. >> give me an example of a loophole that you'll close. >> romney: people at high end taxpayers will have fewer deductions and exemptions. those numbers will come down. >> i'm cutting tax on the rich massively, but some of the loopholes i might take away
